Sarah and Jon married at Highgate House in August 2016. Read about their special woodland themed wedding below:
Tell us your story (how did you meet, how did he propose?)
Jon and I are a second time around love story. We met after a period of time of being singletons again and in 2015 Jon proposed on top of Skiddaw mountain in the Lake District. We were initially going to wait a couple of years to get married but due to the ill health of my mother we decided to plan for 2016.
What made you choose us as your wedding venue?
Highgate House was fairly close to our home so convenient in terms of travel distance for ourselves and our guests. We were impressed with the beautiful setting and the mix of old and new buildings. We particularly fell in love with the Baronial Hall! We loved the friendly atmosphere created by the staff and felt truly welcomed from our very first visit.
Which suppliers did you use?
Room dressing by Style Events, flowers by Once Upon a Time Floral Design, music by Vintage Music, our car was from Classic Carriages of Northampton, cake by Martine's Cakes, photography by Lee Glasgow Photography and Videographer wasTinBox Memories.
On the day, what were the best bits & what made the day memorable?
Walking down the stairs having stayed at Highgate overnight and then into the Baronial Hall was just wonderful. The whole day was amazing with the staff ensuring everything ran smoothly.
What was your vision/theme and how did you make it happen?
We went for a woodland theme with green bridesmaid dresses, green cravats for the men, and trees in the Baronial Hall which were transferred into the Coote room for the evening. We had tree trunk tea light holders for the tables alongside silk and wooden leaves with our wedding date engraved on as decoration. Our table floral displays and bouquets also were created to the theme, utilising wild flowers and herbs. We had a wooden leaf guestbook and a simple cake with sugar work leaves.
How was the food on the day?
Just awesome! It was delicious and many guests commented on the quality of the wedding breakfast and the evening buffet.
What/who helped during the planning process?
Lauren was our point of call and she was wonderful! Nothing was too much trouble and she had the patience of a saint. She answered endless emails and came up with solutions to all of my concerns relating to my elderly disabled mother.
What's the best advice you can give a couple planning their wedding?
Stick to your budget. It's easy to get carried away and you don't want to have money worries shadowing your special day. Take the advice of the wedding planner as they have the experience, and get acquainted with Pinterest!
What comments would you like to add about us and the staff involved in your big day?
All the staff at Highgate were friendly and keen to ensure the day ran smoothly. Nothing was too much trouble and every worry I had was solved by them.
"Our wedding day was everything we dreamed it would be and more. We may not have been spring chickens but we felt on cloud nine at Highgate House. In a stunning location surrounded by our nearest and dearest it was quite simply the best day of our lives and the memories will be cherished forever."
