Get to know Rebecca Carter, Commercial Director of SOS Venue Finding.
How did you get here?
After graduating from University, I began my career with Sundial SOS as a Venue Finder and started to build my knowledge of Meetings and Events. Along the way I learnt a lot from my colleagues and then took the next step in my career to become Account Manager. Taking on the responsibility of building strong relationships with our clients and supporting them to manage their Meeting and Event budgets.
Between 2009 and 2012 I had a period of time out on maternity leave to have my 2 daughters, Elia and Lydia. I returned to the business as SOS General Manager, taking on a strategic role to drive the business forward.
The latest step in my story with Sundial was being asked to join the Board of Directors as SOS Commercial Director, this is a huge honour and one I relish. I have learnt a lot on my 16 year journey with Sundial and I am looking forward to the future.
What are the best things about your job at Sundial Group?
Working in the Meetings & Events industry means I am lucky to connect with fabulous people every day in many different guises; colleagues, clients and suppliers and it is these people that are the best thing about my job.
What achievements are you most proud of in your life?
It goes without saying that my 2 girls are definitely one of my biggest achievements. Every day they teach me something new.
Travelling solo around Western Australia between Sixth Form and University for 6 months. During this time, the world felt like a very big place, but breathtakingly beautiful.
Leading a team of talented people at Sundial SOS and building a successful business.
What motivates you to succeed?
One of my passions is ensuring we work in an inspirational environment, where my colleagues feel safe and empowered to bring greatness to the business. The team around me motivates me to be successful.
Of course not forgetting my husband, he is my rock and shows great belief in me and is a very good listener!
Do you have a favourite holiday destination and why?
Not really… I love the sunshine and experiencing different cultures. There are so many places I want to visit, I have a long list of destinations to tick off.
Name one thing that not many people know about you?
I spent a lot of my childhood visiting my Dad who worked across the world, mostly in Europe and the Middle East. I could share many experiences, but one that springs to mind is the time I sang at the Athens Amphitheater, an amazing experience.
What’s your favourite film?
This is a very tricky question as there are so many great films. I’m a softy (not surprising to most) and love all Romantic Comedies. One that sparks memories for me is Dirty Dancing, my sister and I recorded it from TV on VHS (I’m that old!) and watched it over and over for many years.
What do you love doing outside of work?
Most of my spare time is spent at kids clubs and parties, but when I do get a moment I love going to the theatre with my mum and spending time with friends that I have known since school (many years ago).
